Good news for Toyota owners with recalled vehicles. Toyota has found a way to fix the sticking gas pedals.
Toyota recalled 2.3 million vehicles last week because accelerator pedals on 8 vehicle lines could get stuck.
Toyota mechanics across the country have been taking classes, learning how to fix the pedals. The solution is a metal piece called a shim that is inserted into the gas pedal.
"[It] actually goes in and releases some of that tension and prevents that friction shoe from wearing in the future, so it will last a long time," says Toyota Technical Specialist Joel Goldschmitt.
Jeff Hunter Toyota in Waco and Don Ringler Toyota in Temple already have the shims in. Inserting them can take between one and three hours.
Toyota is sending out letters explaining the process. The letter also tells customers to contact their nearest Toyota dealership to schedule a time to come in.
Jeff Hunter Toyota says they are getting an additional shipment of the shims in on Monday. They also plan to stay open until 9 pm everyday next week and they will open on the weekend if they have to.
