PORT ARTHUR, Texas (AP) - Investigators say a house fire in Port Arthur that killed a 9-year-old boy left his father hospitalized with burns.
Jefferson County Justice of the Peace Brad Burnett said Tuesday that fourth-grader Justin Henley, whose body was discovered in the home, died of smoke inhalation.
David Henley was transported to a hospital in Beaumont, then moved to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. UTMB spokesman John Koloen (KOH'-len) says Henley was in good condition Tuesday in the burn unit.
The boy's mother suffered burns on her feet in Monday's fire, while his grandmother and two other children escaped unharmed.
Fire Marshal Mark Mulliner says the blaze has been ruled an accident, with an apparent electrical short from an appliance to blame.
