AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Police in Austin are becoming increasingly concerned about random gang violence in the city.
Police say several recent violent acts are linked to gang members, including the fatal beating of a 75-year-old woman. She died Wednesday from injuries sustained in a January attack outside a Taco Bell. The woman's death followed a series of weekend drive-by shootings. A man survived being shot in the neck during one of the attacks.
Unlike the typical gang-against-gang violence, Austin Police Commander Chris Noble tells the Austin American-Statesman that the recent string of crimes is "just complete random violence."
