ACAPULCO, Mexico (AP) - Mexican authorities are investigating whether a new drug gang has emerged after a message left with six bodies Monday.
Guerrero state police say the six men were found in a car in the southwestern state's capital of Chilpancingo (chihl-PAN'-sing-goh). A message lay next to them stating: "This will happen to all rapists, extortionists and kidnappers. Attentively, the New Cartel of the Sierra."
Also Monday, the bodies of 4 men were found dumped in a plaza in Nuevo Laredo, across the border from Laredo, Texas. Tamaulipas state police say the bodies bore signs of torture and were found with the remains of a dog and a cat and several threatening messages.
At least seven major drug trafficking cartels operate in Mexico, but many smaller gangs operate throughout the country, often with links to the bigger groups.
