WICHITA FALLS, Texas (AP) - Four women are suing a north Texas county, claiming they were forced to have sex with the former sheriff under threats.
One woman claims former Montague (mahn-TAYG') County sheriff Bill Keating forced her to have sex within an hour of her arrest and later tried to rape her while she was handcuffed.
Keating was already out of office when he and 16 others were indicted last year in the jail scandal.
Keating died of an apparent heart attack about a year ago, before he was sentenced on federal charges for having sex with a woman under threat of arrest. So his conviction and the state charges were dismissed.
In the federal civil lawsuits filed this month in nearby Wichita Falls, the women seek unspecified monetary damages from Montague County.
